Certified Medical Assistant
Job Description
Job Title: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
Location: 238 S. English Street, Greensboro, NC 27401
Terms: Full-time position (Will also accept part-time if needed)
Reports to: Mustard Seed Medical Director & Office Manager
Overview:
The CMA assists the medical provider with patient care, administrative tasks, and clinical procedures. The CMA will perform vital sign measurements, patient intake, and administrative duties (like scheduling and insurance verification). CMAs also educate patients on medical topics and maintain clinic supplies.
Clerical and Administrative Duties (may include, but not limited to):
· Greet patients and other visitors to the clinic
· Answer telephone calls, document and route them to appropriate staff
· Handle correspondence
· Schedule appointments
· Verify and update patient information and insurance when scheduling an appointment
· Provide appropriate patient forms with directions for patients at check-in
· Perform reminder calls to patients for next day appointments
· Review providers schedule and address issues that may impede patient care or clinic flow
· Maintain reports for no shows, numbers/type of visits, recall list, billing information and others as needed
· Manage incoming and outgoing medical records
· Collect co-pays, records transactions, and perform daily reconciliation of cash receipts
· Ensure adequate inventory of office supplies
Clinical Duties (may include, but not limited to):
· Obtain any records/test results prior to the visit
· Escort patients to the room
· Measure vital signs, height, weight, BMI, record chief complaint, smoking history and allergies
· Measure peak flow, pulse oximetry, perform diabetic foot, vision, hearing screening, EKG and other testing per rooming protocol for the specific type of patient visit or as requested by provider
· Obtain and or update medical history, include medication reconciliation and immunization history
· Prepare pt. for exam and assist provider as needed
· Administer medications, collect and prepare lab specimens, perform CLIA Waived testing, change
dressing remove sutures, perform ear irrigation and other procedures/tests as directed by provider
· Authorize prescriptions refills as per standing orders and as directed by provider
· Provide patient/family education as needed
· Facilitate referrals to specialist or Emergency Department
· Maintain logs for quality monitoring
· Clean and restock rooms, clean and sterilize instruments
· Inventory supplies and date checks
· Give immunizations and maintain logs for immunization refrigerator/freezer. Maintain immunization inventory and good standing with NCIR and CVMS (Covid Vaccination).
Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:
Must be proficient in basic computer skills, ability to learn electronic medical records, excellent oral and written communication skills, must be able to problem solve, organize, anticipate, and prioritize workload as well as multi-task, display professional attitude through performance, appearance and demeanor. Requires standing/walking for extended periods as well as stooping, bending and reaching, must be able to lift 25-35 pounds.

COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKER
Job Title: Community Outreach Worker
Location: 238 S. English Street, Greensboro, NC 27401
Terms: Seeking two part-time or one Full-time employee
Reports to: Lead Community Health Worker & Medical Director
Overview: The Community Health Outreach position provides social services, education, and links to community resources to members of the community who have needs beyond what our medical director can provide. This position is split between time in the office and time off-site in the neighborhood conducting wellness checks or education/link to community resources. Bilingual (Spanish & English) preferred.
General Responsibilities:
· Responsible for establishing trusting relationships with patients and their families while providing general support and encouragement of the purposes and services of the program to the user population and the impact that the program will have.
· Provide ongoing follow-up, basic motivational interviewing and goal-setting with patients/families.
· Follow-up with patients via phone calls, home visits and visits to other settings where patients can be found.
· Provide referrals for services to community agencies as appropriate.
· Exhibit excellent working relations with patients and staff.
· Become knowledgeable about community resources appropriate to the needs of patients/families.
· Provided consistent communication and case management to evaluate patient/family status, ensuring that provided information and reports clearly described progress.
· Act as a patient advocate and liaison between the patient/family and community service agencies.
· Record patient care management information in the EMR and other software no later than 24 hours after contact with a patient.
· Attend regular staff meetings, training courses, and other meetings, as requested.
· Coach patients in effective management of their chronic health conditions and self-care.
· Assist patients in understanding care plans and instructions.
· Document all activities, service plans, and results while strictly adhering to the policies and procedures of Mustard Seed Community Health.
· Maintain HIPPA compliance by maintaining confidentiality, and keeping the information concerning MSCH patients and employees confidential.
· Interpret or translate between patient and medical staff (If Bi-Lingual).
· Manage data entry in EPIC (medical database).
Qualifications:
· High School graduate. Some college preferred.
· Experience in a medical office a plus.
· Track record of demonstrating effective communication and interpersonal skills in person and over the telephone.
· Proficient in computer programs/typing skills.
· Ability to learn electronic medical records.
· Understands how to ask for help when situations or problems present which are beyond their ability or knowledge.
· Must be able to solve problems, organize, anticipate, and prioritize workload and multi-task.
· Exhibits a willingness to learn new skills.
· Displays professional attitude through performance, appearance and demeanor.
· Gain knowledge on other support services available in the community through partner agencies and provide information to patients when needed.
· Requires sitting/standing/walking for extended periods and stooping, bending and reaching; must be able to lift 25-35 pounds.
